Today's Blog Feature is on a Fellow Etsy Kids Member Darlin ' Details. She makes adorable one of a kind shirt and so much more. Find out how she started her own business on etsy.

I first head about Etsy through a friend. I was making Christmas Presents for my son's teachers and she told me that I should list them to sell on the site Etsy. So that is how my business Darlin' Details started. Who knew that making applique initialed tote bags would led to a business.

I am a work at home mom with two wonderful children, an english bulldog and fabulous husband. I love to make cute applique t-shirts and tote bags. These by far are my favorite crafting projects. I have an art education degree from the University of Georgia. I am a die hard Georgia Bulldog fan and you will see lots of red and black in my shop. Having an art degree I have always been doing art and craft projects weather it was making birth announcements, wedding invitations or gifts for my children's teachers.

I love creating things and I am always looking for ideas. I will have to say my daughter is what started the business idea. I was not willing to pay what retail shops charge for dresses and monogrammed items so I decided to start making things for her myself. Being new to the Etsy world I am just finding my way into the world of internet and social media. This is how I get my world out to the world. I have a Facebook page and I tweet under my name ugaem. I have started doing arts and craft events. I try to do at least one show a month locally.

My advice is to keep at it no matter how overwhelming it can be at times.

She has a wonderful and a awesome product for all those moms with children trying to be potty trained and a awesome new product to keep your little ones socks from falling off.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:

I heard about Etsy from friends/ word-of-mouth mostly.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

I'm a work-at-home-mom to my 2 1/2 year old daughter, Ava, and new baby girl . My former life was in advertising/ marketing for an international corporation. I've always had the creativity and entrepreneurial bug, so when I had to the opportunity to stay home with my daughter, I jumped on the chance to start my own shop! Like everyone on Etsy, I LOVE to make things! It's so fun to take pride in a finished product that YOU made yourself.

3)How did you get started as a designer?

Since becoming a mom, I've had so many ideas for baby products and things that would be useful to any mom (we always need more help, right!?). When I began potty training my 2 year old daughter, she almost immediately wanted to wear panties (everywhere), but was not necessarily ready. I didn't want to squash her spirit and ambition, so I let her (even though we had a GAZILLION accidents). I immediately knew I needed a solution to accidents in her carseat, while we were out. Every parent knows what an absolute pain in the butt those things are to take out of the car, take apart, wash and put it all back together again! I looked online and couldn't find any carseat liners with good reviews or that could be machine washed and dried. I tried using a towel and also a puppy training pad, but she would just pull them out and they'd end up on the floor of the car. Soooooo....I made my own. Thus, Kidz Wiz Padz was born. Soon, all of my friends wanted one and their friends wanted one and I quickly knew I was on to something! And so, I became I designer. I'm currently in the process of getting my name and design trademarked and patented. We've been approved by the CPSIA; Kidz Wiz Padz follows all safety requirements set for children's products. We're also currently under review with the Transportation Safety Commission.

4)What inspires you to create?:

I usually create things that I need or things that I find in retail, that I know I could make myself for less money and exactly the way I want it!

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

I haven't done much advertising yet, although I plan to increase that during the next few months. I've mostly been relying on word-of-mouth and I do the Etsy Showcases, from time-to-time.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

My best advice for other aspiring designers is to find your niche. Create something you are passionate about, believe in and something that other people will believe in and need/ want too.

I am still here

Sorry it has been so long. I am still here I promise. I am starting to get back in the swing of things since our little man was born. today was the first day I started back in the studio. I started working on a new theme( Rapunzel Inspired). I finished a Birthday banner in that theme. I am hoping to have the whole party pack ready for pictures later this week. I will post a sneak peek of the banner on my Facebook Fan page... Make sure you check it out and "like" our page. Hi Everyone,
So sorry it has been so long since I wrote a blog. Life got a little crazy. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Family and Friends. Since Thanksgiving I have been going to weekly appointments, relaxing, Christmas Shopping and preparing for out little one to arrive in January. Well Our little one had a different plan for us. Friday December 9th I starting feeling some of what I thought was braxton hicks contractions. They weren't close together and I wasn't having any problems so we didn't think much about it. I was still having the Pain off and on Saturday December 10th so I laid around and tried to relax. Saturday night I went to my cousins wedding and did okay. So again we thought it was nothing. Sunday night I was really starting to feel the pain but the contractions weren't close together and were every once in a while. We had a Doctors appointment the next day at 11:30 so I decided I would just wait and go to the doctors in the morning since I was not having any other issues.

Monday December 12th (34 weeks along) I went to my doctors appointment and come to our surprise I was 3 cm dilated. They sent me to Labor and Delivery to try and stop my contractions. They gave me some meds to try and stop labor and wanted to wait 2 hours before checking me again . By the next time they checked me I was 5 cm. I was in active labor. They got me to a room and all ready for our little ones arrival. I thought for sure I would be in labor for ever but to my surprise I had a very quick , smooth and easy labor and quick delivery. At 10:23 p.m Our little guy was welcomed in to the world. He weighed 5 pounds 14 ounce and 18 1/2 inches long.
We were very worried about him since he was so early. They had NICU nurses in the room ready for his arrival to take care of him and make sure he was okay. They checked him out and he was perfectly fine. He didn't have to go to the NICU. Which was a miracle. He got to stay with us in the room and got to go home with us when I was discharged from the hospital. We are so blessed on how well he did for coming early. He has been doing amazing since we got home. We couldn't be happier for our early Christmas Present..He is such a miracle. We are so in love with our Little guy:0)

Resting and Crafting

Hi Everyone,
I have been busy resting and taking easy while being on maternity leave. Even though my shop will not re open Until Feb. I have been busy working and creating a little bit for our grand re opening. I just can't stay out of my studio completely ( But I dont stay in there all day like I use too).
Before Expressions By Devin was doing Party Supplies I use to make Hand made greeting cards. I just love to Stamp. Well I decided to make some styles of Greeting cards and add them to my shop in Feb. Here is a Sneak Peek... Let me know what you think.

Christmas Decorations!!!

Hi Everyone,
I am so ready for Holiday Season to begin Next week. In our house we always put the tree up the night before Thanksgiving. I am ready for the Holiday Season to start Shopping , Baking and Decorating.
This year will be a little different around here with the baby due mid January and being 36 weeks the week of Christmas we have decided to just put up the tree. The less we put up the less we have to put away.. Just in case our Baby decides to make a early appearance ( which we hope not but we are on the baby time so who knows)
I love Decorating the house and making it look festive.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?: My cousin started selling on Etsy and sent me her shop link. After lots of time just browsing on Etsy I decided to open a shop. I had just had my daughter and loved crocheting all things baby!

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!: I am a mother to a 19 month old who is extremely active! I originally started my shop planning on crocheting blankets, but as my daughter started crawling, then walking, and now running, I decided to create things that are a little less time consuming. I am loving making spring beanies at the moment!

3)How did you get started as a designer? I have always been crafty thanks to my mom. When I had my daughter ideas just kept on pouring into my head and I love trying new things. I just purchased a Cricut machine which gives me more tools to create!

4)What inspires you to create?: My daughter for sure! I just love dressing her up and making things for her. She has pretty much one of everything that is in my shop.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?: I have a Facebook and a blog. My blog is more about being a parent than my Etsy shop, but I throw in an update every now and again.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?: Create what you love! I never feel like it is work to create! I absolutely love each design and item I make and I love creating custom orders. It is great to mix a buyers ideas with mine!

On Maternity Leave

I have closed up my shop for Maternity Leave to prepare to Welcome our First baby due in January, and to take some time for some much needed rest.

Happy November 1st. I can't believe it is November already. This year is zooming by. Today's feature is perfect to kick off November holiday season and the cool chilly weather. Today's Feature is on a Fellow Etsykids Member : Petite Tuques.

1) How did you first hear about Etsy?:
I heard about Etsy when I started searching for handmade shops to sell my products. I didn't open a shop right away, because I wanted a Canadian venue, since I live in Canada. After 6 months of being online, I wasn't as sucessful as I wanted to be, so I opened a shop on Etsy and have since made more sales.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
I am a stay at home mom to two boys. I started to knit when I became pregnant. I was overwhelmed with all the creative ideas, and was really excited when I learned how to make my first sweater.

3) How did you get started as a designer?
After learning from patterns, it was easy to start making patterns of my own. I have a couple of resource books, so I am constantly looking through them for my next project.

4)What inspires you to create?:
From an early age, I wanted to make things. When I started knitting again in my adulthood, it just came together. When my boys were little, they inspired me to make cute little boy sweaters and hats/mittens sets. I like to figure things out, and knitting to me is like solving little puzzles. I'm always thinking about my next project, when I think of a baby, or see a cute baby picture on etsy.

5) How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:
I use different social sites, like Facebook and Twitter. I joined a few Canadian Communities, like Follow Me I'm Canadian, and Canadians Moms. I also use The Mom Shoppe for advertising.

6) Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
Never give up. Blog regularly. Develop relationships with other people in your craft.

My shop will be closed the first week of December through the month of January to spend the holiday season with family and prepare to welcome our first child.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:
When I was pregnant with my daughter back in 2007 I was browsing the internet looking for designer diaper bags. That's when I came across Etsy and all it's amazing items! I was blown away by how many gorgeous and unique pieces I found. Living in a time where everything looks the same and is made in a factory, it really made me happy that I could shop on a site and buy something that is uniquely mine. Everything that I have bought on Etsy is wonderful and very well made.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
My name is Angela and I've been a stay-at-home Mom since 2008. I am married to my very dear friend and soul mate Dakota. He is a wonderful Father and a fantastically super hottie Husband ;) God really and truly blessed me when he brought Dakota into my life. He inspires me to go out and try new things and he totally supports me and my new business. I don't think I would've opened up Ella Minnow Pea Boutique without his support. My children inspire all of my items. Everything that I make in my shop is something that I use with my own children. By being an actual user of my products, it helps me figure out little changes that might make them better. I totally 100% believe in what I sell at Ella Minnow Pea Boutique and that passion I feel reflects in my product description as well as when I talk to people about what I sell. I always felt that if you truly believe and love what you sell, others will too and want to buy.

3)How did you get started as a designer?
I've always loved to sew and when I made a couple items for my children, people took notice. The child care lady at my local gym was blown away by the diaper clutch I made my daughter. She said that it look like I bought it at a high end baby boutique and she said I should start selling them. My husband always encourages me to try new things and not worry about failure. So I went online and opened up my shop. At the time I was teaching my daughter her ABC's and her favorite part was LMNOP so that's where the name came from. I also found out later that it's the name of a book, lol! Go figure!

4)What inspires you to create?:
My children, my hubby, my friends, and strangely enough fabric. Sometimes when I'm in the fabric store browsing each design I just let me imagination take the best of me and let the fabric tell me what it wants to be. Yup, I'm that crazy fabric lady. At least I'm not frolicking through the isles...yet.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:
Facebook, business cards, Etsy groups, diaperswappers.com, bumper sticker, word-of-mouth, friends, etc. The biggest one is actually using what I make. If I'm going to the pool, I bring along a hooded towel for each my kids. When my daughter goes to preschool, I pack her lunch in a designer diaper clutch (it works as a fabulously adorable lunch bag too!). For birthdays or holidays I make the kids items from my shop.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
Just do it, seriously. If you are thinking about doing something, do it! What's the worst that could happen? Each day is a possible sale :)

Hi Everyone
Today's Blog Feature is on a Fellow Etsykids Member The Tutu Palace.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy? - I actually was watching Good Morning America and Tori was on, talking about how mom's could earn extra money at home. A couple months later, I actually got laid off and was looking for a fun way to make money at home and remembered that episode. I crafted, but not "full time," just here and there, and decided that I could give Etsy a try. At 20 cents a listing, it's not like I would be out a WHOLE lot of money if I didn't succeed, so I gave it a shot.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art! - I am Mommy to Coco and Mabel, the names I like to call my kids. Coco is a 4-year-old, get-into-and-onto-EVERYTHING boy and Mabel is my 2 year old baby girl. I craft for them. I don't have any boy items in my shop because it's SO HARD to craft stuff for him, so he mostly gets PJs and the like, things I can sew. As for Mabel though, she gets EVERYTHING. I make felt food for her, bows, dresses, tutus... literally anything you can think of, I can make it for her. I love to craft because not only is it fun, but it saves us a TON of money on things (even though my husband ends up spending the money on things for the kids anyway!).

3)How did you get started as a designer? I actually learned to "craft" when I was young and participated in 4-H. I don't know if that's a southern thing or if it translates all over the place, but it's basically a DIY group for youth for everything from planting and canning to raising animals and sewing. I hadn't done anything in forever but when my daughter came along, I decided it was a good time to get back to crafting because every single bow I looked at online, I thought, "I can do that. Wow, they are charging THAT for that bow?!" LOL.

4)What inspires you to create? My kids. It's so cliche, but it's so true. I see things they like at the stores, and go home and create them for the little booger snatchers. From clothes to cloth toys, if I've seen it, I can probably recreate it. And yes, bows always go with the clothes, and if I can add some tulle or a tutu under a skirt, she's got one. ;)

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy? I have a Facebook page... just search The Tutu Palace.And I just started a blog. www.doingmischief.blogspot.com I envision it being a little bit of everything from my life to DIY crafts and more. As a professional writer, I can't NOT write, but as a crafter and mom, I had to find a way to blend all of that and blogging seems a good place to do it.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Be creative and do what you want. Sure, trends dictate sales, but seriously, why not create your own NEXT trend? That's always my goal, to try and create the next trend.

A blog about tons of stuff

Hi Everyone,
I can't Believe its October 1st already. We been having nice fall weather around here.
Tons of Local fall Festivals are happening around here in the next couple of weeks. I love this time of year. I love going to all the Festivals buying from local crafter's and of course eating some awesome food.

Just wanted to give my Fans/Customers a heads up.
My shop will be closed sometime in December and all the month of January to spend the holiday season with family and prepare to welcome our first child.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:
I first heard about etsy through a friend. I sold her some hair clips and she told me about the site

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
How did you get started as a designer?
I am a sahm at this time, I have a beautiful baby girl who was born with a full head of hair. She wore hair clips the day I brought her home. She inspired me to make my items. I coudn't find small delicate clips for her, I didn't want anything over the top she was so small, but she needed something for all that hair. so by nature I like to make things, so I started making her clips. she has a clip for everything, to match outfits, special holidays etc... then I started making her crystal pacifiers and pacifier holders, I then noticed that i was now making them for everyone else. So I checked out etsy and thought this would be great! I am a fine artist so I love to draw and paint, I also love making jewlery and cookie & pretzel decorating.

3)What inspires you to create?:
I think I am probably like every artist out there. There are days that I don't have the time or the energy after keeping up with a very active soon to be 3 year old. But then there are the other days that I can stay up till 3 and make 4/5 crystal items and a dozen clips. Everything inspires me, I wish I had more time in my day to get things done!

4)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:
I leave my card everywhere, the coffee shop, my daughters gymboree class, I have a facebook page and I also ventured into doing a vendor shows.

5)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
I would tell an aspiring artist just to do it! Etsy is a great site because you don't have to invest a lot. You can get your work out there for people to noticed and then branch off from there!

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:
My friend Heather, started her Etsy shop in 2006, http://www.etsy.com/shop/heatherhalesdesigns. It was my first introduction to Etsy and I loved it’s premise and how attainable it made having an online store front.

2)Tell us a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
I’m a 30-something mother of five living in the sunflower state. I love to make things. I dabble in lots of different mediums, but my main medium is sewing and fabric.

3)How did you get started as a designer?
I learned to sew as a tween. As a college student, friends started getting married and having babies. I needed baby shower gifts that fit my meager budget. I quickly learned that with a few dollars of flannel, I could make a really nice, practical, chic baby gift. Over the years the response has been really positive. It’s been so rewarding to see blankets and burp cloths I made being used by toddlers and get passed on to younger siblings.

4)What inspires you to create?:
My children are absolutely my inspiration. Every item in my shop was first created to meet the need of my children, and my desire to provide them with high quality custom made items that won’t break my budget.

Burp Cloths … My babies were spitter-uppers. Cloth diapers are hands down the best burp cloths, but I didn’t want my burp cloths to be mistaken for cleaning rags, nor did I want them looking like everyone else’s, so I trimmed them out with jumbo ric rac and cute ribbon trims. Pillowcases … Having multiple sets of twin sheets that mix and match, makes laundry and bed making much easier. But my children still love to have bedding that is tailored to their loves, and they really get into having themed pillowcases for holidays and special occasions. Over the years I’ve gotten involved in two Etsy Street Teams (subset groups within Etsy centered around a commonality): a local team, the Kansas City Etsy Team (KCEtsy), and genre team, EtsyKids. I write for both team blogs, etsykids.blogspot.com, kcetsy.blogspot.com, helping provide increased exposure to my teammates handmade wares, and in turn hopefully bringing exposure to my shop. Today's Blog feature is on a Fellow EtsyKids Member Dapple Gray Designs. She makes adorable Handmade clothes and so much more.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:

A friend who makes jewelry mentioned it on her Facebook page so I curiously checked it out. I set up my shop and over a few months I tweaked it until I was satisfied.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

I live in Annapolis, Maryland and am a mother of 3 children - one in college and two in daycare. My husband is an Equine Vet and we live on a small farm with horses, a dog and pond full of gold fish. I love to travel, treasure my Moms-Night-Outs, painting and creating clothes that are cute & comfortable for little boys and sweet & sassy for little girls

3)How did you get started as a designer?

I actually started with a very big project - my first house in Federal Hill - Baltimore City. I totally ripped everything out of the house and hired a handy man to help me put it back together. We hung sheet rock, light fixtures, doors, cabinets and painted every inch of the house. I laid tile, wood floors, built a deck, sewed curtains & bed coverings and then went on to renovate two more houses. I love creating and designing no matter how big or small. And speaking of small - I have a 3 yr old daughter who loves dresses and a 2 yr old son who loves dinosaurs, thus I now make clothes. My hammer and table saw have been replaced by my sewing machine and serger. I am very proud, though, that I have the skills to renovate my design studio!

4)What inspires you to create?:

I live with my two children and husband on a small farm where we have horses and are surrounded by nature. We also live near the Chesapeake Bay where we love to sail and play on the beaches. Most of my designs have animals, insects, flowers or a nautical touch.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

Word of mouth has been my biggest tool. I make outfits for my friend's kids and my own kids and waa laa I have instant advertising when they wear my clothes to school, parties or other venues.

Hi Everyone,
Today Blog Feature is on a Fellow EtsyKids Member Stella B Jeska. She makes AMAZING Hats , Photo props and so much more for your little ones!!!

1) I first heard about Etsy while expecting our 3rd daughter. I was on an amazing Due Date board with some amazing mommies who shared everything! Etsy was a completely foreign concept to me but I was quickly hooked!

2)I am a 30-something Mama with 3 beautiful daughters, a baby due in November, and a loving husband. We spend our time raising our babies, going to church, spending time with family and taking care of our growing lil "farm". While I love sewing, quilting and fabric crafts, I have to admit that my personality is better suited for the relaxing and therapeutic craft of hooking - read, "crocheting". =o) I'm just impatient enough to need the almost immediate results that crocheting hats and accessories bring.

3)The story you hear most times when asking a crocheter how they learned to crochet is that their mom or grandma taught them. I was actually inspired by my brother. Yep, you heard me. My brother was my inspiration. He and his wife were making beautiful blankets and afghans and it sparked my interest. Going back to my impatience, I wanted to make something that wouldn't take me so long... that's when I asked him to help me learn how to crochet in the round so I could try my first hat. From there, I learned more technique and specialized stitches from YouTube and Google searches. The rest, as they say, is history!

4)I am inspired by babies and children and the current fashions. I love creating accessories that today's children can wear with pride. I like to say "this isn't your Grandma's crochet." I will only make items that I would only put on my own children with durable, comfortable and fashionable yarns.

5)I really started seeing more success for my shop when I created a Facebook Fan Page. I started by asking my friends and family to support my page and it's gradually grew from there. I also had success by using the advertising offered by Facebook!

6)My advice would be to hang in there. Create a maintainable creation schedule, stay consistent in your work quality, communication and customer service. While the quality of your items will speak for itself, there is something to be said for sellers who connect and with their customer base. All of these things will pay off!

1.) How did you first hear about Etsy? I heard about Etsy from a friend. I was looking for things for my daughter's nursery and thought it was a fantastic outlet for both purchasing and selling.

2. Tell us about yourself and your favorite craft: I am a mother of a beautiful 17 month old. Before the birth of my daughter, I owned a design company specializing in corporate aviation design. Once she was born, I decided to stay at home with her and work on all of the creative ideas that I had been thinking about for years.....so The Little Chick Boutique was born. It has been so much fun being able to share my days with my daughter. I do find myself keeping pretty late hours in order to keep up and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Etsy has been an amazing outlet for me and I appreciate every order that comes my way. My favorite items at the moment are the quilts and blankets that I am working on. Each one is so unique and crafted with special attention to detail and I love being able to monogram a name and know who the blanket is going to.

3. How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy: Some of the ways that I have been able to get the word out about my shop have been Facebook, Twitter....social networking is always a plus. I have been able to be a part of some amazing teams like EtsyKids, EtsyBaby and ARETSY. Not only are they great for getting the word out, but I have met some other talented members and love to help promote their shops as well. 1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:

I 1st heard about Etsy through a friend. She told me that there were amazing artists there and I should consider selling my items. From there it was hooked!

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

My story is really quite simple..... Growing up my family reused everything, not because we were thinking of the environment but because we needed to. This reuse and re purposing always fascinated me. I would watch my mother refashion old clothes into new outfits for me with her trusty sewing machine or snuggle with my grandma on a Saturday morning while she darned thinning socks. One of my favorite things was sitting in a sunny corner of the sewing room sifting through buttons. Those buttons were like “eye candy” to me and not just because they were hidden in an old cookie tin! There were just so many colors, textures, shapes and sizes, each one more intriguing then the next. From these memories and life experiences my passion for creativity was born. My favorite projects all involve sewing but my personal crafting projects all have to be quick and easy. I am so into the instant gratification!

3)How did you get started as a designer?

I was always watching my mother sew and one day, I fell in love with a shirt in a magazine. After "stealing" fabric from moms stash, I started cutting, sewing and creating. Before I knew it, I had a new shirt. Granted, it did not fit well but I made it! And to me, at that moment, it was clear that I would be creating from that day forward. After finishing high school, I fine tuned my skills with a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology and spent the next twenty years working for some of the top designers. This is where I learned the fine art of manufacturing from the ground up.

4)What inspires you to create?:

I am constantly inspired by everyday by the simple things in nature. Like the colors in flowers, birds on the feeder or colors of leaves during the changing of seasons. It is amazing what you can create when you think outside of the box.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

To help spread the word about my products and Etsy, I use our Facebook page. It is amazing just how much social media has changed the playing field of younger businesses. I also partner with some amazing Etsy teams. Collaborating with other talented artists helps keep my shop fresh.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
My advice to aspiring designers is to follow your dream and be true to yourself. I have found that my best selling products are the ones that are dear to me.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?: I first heard about Etsy on NPR. They were doing a interview with the creators and I thought to myself, "this sounds like a pretty cool thing, a world market place for artists.What a great way to see people from all over the Earth doing their thing!"

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art:

My name is Amos, I met my hubby on Match.com, fell in love and moved to Connecticut and have since become a co-sleeping mama to Henry, my 3 year old. I am very passionate about photography, books, gardening, camping, consigning, sewing and crocheting. I am obsessed with anything Little House on the Prairie and I aspire to become Ma Ingalls. My dream is to move off the grid...farm, make soap, live in a yurt and build a wicked tree house.

3)How did you get started as a designer?

I lost my job in July of 2010 and have yet to find another one. So, pushed up against a rock and a hard place, I did what any tough cookie does...I started to sew... that led me to Etsy and in September 2010 I opened up my shop, started a blog and the rest is still being written.

4)What inspires you to create?:
Henry is a pretty big influence on me and of course our Mother Earth. That is why I started working with wood...I wanted him to play and learn with toys that honored Her and our connection to Her. There is something to be said for toys and handmade goods that can be played with now and passed on to the next generation.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

Well, first I looked to my friends to spread the word for me and when that starts to wind down, I moved to the social networks and tried to gather a following on my facebook page and blog (www.applenamos.blogspot.com). But let's not forget Etsy Teams...they are crucial. Finding a supportive, creative and encouraging team really helped push me forward. I met other people that were just a hardworking and passionate as I am. It has been a wonderful experience.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

I would say just go for it! Find your voice and then scream it from every place you can!

I can't remember how I first heard about Etsy, but I do know that once I saw it, I was hooked! I just loved everything! I called my sister immediately and told her she had to check out this awesome site!

2)Tell us a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

Well, my name is Erica and I am a proud mommy of two boys, Cale and Elias. I love the simple life, as misleading as it may sound. And yes… I'm one of those moms that think, "If I CAN do it myself, darn it, I'm GOING to do it my self!" I homeschool, cloth diaper, and soon will be starting a small fruit and vegetable backyard garden. AND I LOVE IT ALL!

3)How did you get started as a designer?

My grandmother sewed EVERYTHING! from dresses to dog beds and with visiting through the summers growing up, I learned all sorts of crafting skills. After I was given my first sewing machine I also began sewing everything, from pillows to prom dresses. After creating things for myself that seemed to make my life so much more simpler, my friends began asking me if I could make something for them. Naturally, my next step was an Etsy shop, which has pushed me as a designer and a mommy.

4)What inspires you to create?:

Anything to make my life easier as a mother is enough to think that maybe another mommy out there might need these same things. The more I sell, the more motivated I am to get up and make my baby items for the people out there going on errands, trips and playdates without them!

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

I Facebook a lot and tell my friends all about the things I'm making next or what I just finished. I've also recently started joining some of the Etsy Teams, such an awesome resource! I really think it's upped the traffic I'm getting through my shop.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

Photography, photography, photography! You wouldn't believe how much the look of your pictures effect your potential to sell! You have to keep it creative and unique, and NEVER boring and drab. I also think a logo is so important to your design's advertisement! Make sure when you sell your item, YOU are still on it somewhere! It doesn’t have to be big and obvious, I use a small tag with my shop's name on.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:

One of my friends would post items she'd made on Facebook, asking if anyone wanted first dibbs before she listed it on Etsy. Curious to what Etsy was, I had to go check it out.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
My name is Mary and I'm a third generation quilter. While I make quilts quite different from those my mother and grandmother make, it's still a quilting tradition nonetheless. No one is quite sure of the exact origin of rag quilts (my specialty), but most quilt historians do believe that they got their name from the Pioneers. Quilts would be made from clothing that was no longer wearable, or that had been outgrown...literally quilts made of rags! I try to incorporate this tradition of recycling clothing and fabrics as much as possible. My favorite way to do that is with T-shirt quilts--I love making these fun custom orders to give new life to old T-shirt collections and fond memories! My Etsy shop started as a way to fill some time between my theatre gigs--I am also an Actor's Equity Stage Manager and costume designer.

3)How did you get started as a designer?
I've always had an eye for color and pattern. I've been dabbling in art ever since I could hold a Jumbo crayon. I think my eye for design really developed in college during my theatrical design classes.

4)What inspires you to create?:
Life. Nature. What lies within the imagination. I love seeing the smiles that my creations bring to the faces of kids, parents, and grandparents.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:
I have a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/frayedfuzzies), as well as an electronic newsletter (sign up on my FB page or at http://eepurl.com/cwDLD). I also post on CraftJuice a few times a month. Recently, I have also started leaving business cards on community bulletin boards at my local craft/hobby stores, as well as coffee shops and bookstores.

Never be afraid to experiment and try something new! Whether it is a new technique, or a new product, you will never know the result unless you try! Who knows, it may be the next big thing for your business :)

After learning how to knit from a free class at our local library, I began designing and making hats for my neighbors new baby and it somehow evolved into hair accessories. I am hoping to add some of my knitted and crochet hats again.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:
I first heard about Etsy, hmm it's hard to remember. I think when I decided to start selling online I googled " sites for selling handmade" and of course Etsy was at the top so I joined.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
My store is named after my son who battled leukemia for five years and lost the war on November 25, 2008. I miss him every second of every day and he is, and always will be my little angel.

I have always been a very "crafty" person. I love to make and decorate things whether it's painting ceramics, making hooked rugs, learning to cross stitch, designing wedding flowers, etc. My problem is that I have the attention span of a gnat and I get bored halfway through something and want to switch. I have so many half finished hooked rugs and cross stitch that my husband won't let me buy any more. : ) I also love creating new things much more than repeating old ones. But making money has been a tremendous motivator to finish what I start and to keep selling the favorites. The process of making crafts is also a healing thing for me and helps me cope.

3)How did you get started as a designer?
I have created floral arrangements for my wedding, my sister's, my cousin's, and a friend's. I have created custom wood items for babies' rooms and I got into creating diaper cakes and shower items when I wanted something unique for my sister's first baby shower. When I decided to open a shop, I couldn't make up my mind which direction to go but I love babies and everything to do with them so I went with the diaper cakes. I wanted to branch out and I also love little girl stuff and desperately wanted one (but was gifted with two big headed boys instead) so I live out my little girl dream by making hair clips and headbands for them and trying them out on my year old niece.

4)What inspires you to create?:
My son is my top inspiration because of his bravery in dealing with his illness. Whenever I get frustrated with customers or lack of sales I remember that in the scheme of life, it is not that big of a deal. I get inspirations by trying to keep up with what is popular right now and by looking around and finding unusual items to build a theme around.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

I have just started trying to spread the word about my shop by joining teams and starting a facebook page. Soon I might build up enough nerve to tackle a blog. I am not very computer literate and I can get confused easily about things (my 14 year old son had to help me make my facebook page). : ) I have a website but all it really does right now is direct people to my etsy shop. In the future I would like to have a shop website where I sell things on it. I am trying to build up my local presence by passing out business cards and am contemplating sending out flyers.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
Try to make items that are not the same as everyone else. There are around 4,300 diaper cakes for sale on Etsy but I try to make mine look unique and stand out from the pack. Don't get frustrated. I sat with two sales for a month and I wanted to cry and call it quits but after Christmas for some reason, I started doing much better. I think if you have a quality product, eventually people will start to recognize it. Don't become too obsessed where you shut everything else out, I have been guilty of that. Especially if I am in the middle of creating something new. And make time for yourself. I have a hard time with this and then get stressed out and cranky which does not help anyone.

Hi everyone,
Today's Blog Feature on Lil Lollipop... a another Fellow Etsykids Member that makes Beautiful Clothing, Tutu's and so much more...

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?: A childhood friend of mine saw the designs I was sewing for my girls and mentioned that I should sell them on Etsy. I fell in LOVE with Etsy and became an Etsy addict.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!: I am a stay at home mom. My husband is a doctor in the Army. I am a musician; I sing and write music. I went to college for music and theatre. I also write children's books, paint, make and design jewelry, design and make lil ones clothes, and act. I CAN NOT DANCE!!! I can't say what is my favorite. I LOVE ALL ARTS! I would say music and designing clothes are neck and neck. I am hoping that once my kids are a bit older this coming fall and we move to Massachusetts, I can go to school for deisgn, since I am self taught.

3)How did you get started as a designer? 5 years ago after 10+ years of marriage, I had my first baby girl. She is my miracle baby. She has a rare form of Spina Bifida. You would never know it as she walks, runs and has no brain issues. Then 22 months later, I had my second. I always say...God gave me one physically challenging one and one emotionally challenging one. haha My second was VERY high maintenance and I had my hands full.

Before I had kids, I was a Praise Leader/Music Minister at a church in Hawaii. I wrote and recorded a Christian Contemporary album while there called Conversations. I toured all over Hawaii and California where I grew up. Once we had the kids and then moved to Savannah, GA, I realized more and more that the traveling around and singing was getting less and less. It was hard to be gone from my family on weekends and evenings. I loved singing jazz, but that meant being gone at night to sing at a bar or restaurant. I am one of those people who are up all hours of the night. I am an insomniac by choice, since my creativity consumes me. Once I had kids, I could still write music at night, but it was so hard to be quiet with that and not wake them up. I had to cut back on my music quite a bit, in order to be there more for my kids. I still lead worship. I currently am on the praise team here at the biggest church in Savannah, but I am not the Music Minister and I help lead twice a month.

I love to shop...what woman doesn't right? I remember going to these adorable boutique shops and seeing these ADORABLE outfits for my girls. I bought a few and then would take them home and think..."These are soooo expensive! Why are they so expensive?!" and then "I could make these!" I started to figure out how to recreate some things all on my own without patterns. Then I found ICANMAKETHIS.COM and that gave me more ideas. I had taught myself how to sew WAY back in high school trying to make punky outfits for myself. I had not used a sewing machine since then. So, I got out the old dusty machine and away I went. (I have a much nicer machine now! ) I LOVED it and more importantly my girls LOVED what I made. I remember one day my oldest daughter said, "Mom, can you make me a gameboy?" HAHAH They figured I could make everything else. Afterall, I painted murals in their rooms and pictures, made clothes, wrote music, made food....of course I could make a gameboy!!! lol

The things I made for my girls got so many compliments and then a friend suggested Etsy. I was hooked. I was so inspired by all the talent on there. My shop started to take off. Then I opened a jewelry shop too Jesuisamoureux.etsy.com, but not doing as well as Lil Lollipop because it seems like EVERYONE makes jewelry, but check my shop out if you would like! :)

4)What inspires you to create?: I have to say my girls...since they are my models and were my first inspirations. I am also inspired by color and pattern. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE going to the fabric stores and craft stores. I still have yet to net a profit because I buy so many "supplies" from the stores that I love to hang out in! Adult seasonal trends inspire me. Like this Fall when capes were so popular. I created some lil girl wool capelets. Period fashions inspire me too. Recently I have aquired lots of French fashion magazines from the 1800s and early 1900s. I am framing them to put them up in my studio as inspirations.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?: Facebook, my blog, twitter, word of mouth and business cards. On Etsy I make TONS of treasuries, which I also love to do. I find that it brings a lot of people my way to my shop. I have done some advertising in Modern Handmade Child and here through Etsy Kids. I used to buy spots on Etsy to promote, but nothing ever came out of those. For me, they were not worth my money. I have more Facebook fans than blog followers. I am not sure why that is, but it is.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?: Oh where do I begin!!! Well here are two things I have learned that may help you.

1. DON'T LOW BALL YOURSELF!!! When I first started I was like my own sweat shop as my husband used to say. I would quickly figure out in my head what it cost to make the item and then add 10.00 or 15.00 more dollars to the price. I still have not mastered this completely. I still low ball myself on a lot of things. But, for example, the Madison dress (picture included) with ruffles down the back. It takes about 10 hours for me to make. I was first selling them for 24.99. I think I was getting paid like two dollars an hour!!! Now I sell them for 59.99. I am not getting as many sales for them since raising the price, but I have to be fair to myself and the time I put in. Also, check the market. Go on Etsy and use it as research too. Type in what you are going to sell and see what other shops are selling a similar item for.

2. WHERE THERE IS FEAR THERE IS NO CREATIVITY. There is no fear in art. Don't over think things, just do. Artists feel and react. Second guessing yourself well end up in you not doing anything for fear of a mistake. In art (design) there are no mistakes. The worst that could happen...you don't like it...start again. That is all part of the creative process. Sometimes your best work will come out of something you are not sure will work, but you take the chance and it is AMAZING!!!

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

I'm a stay at home mom of five from a very creative family. For as long as I can remember, I was always making, painting, or doing something that required imagination! I hope to instill that type of creativity into my own children. I use my art as an outlet, and enjoy it very much. I love painting wall murals, but also enjoy smaller scale projects, which is why Etsy is perfect for me.

3)How did you get started as a designer?

It was my search for unique baby items for baby number five that inspired me to open my own shop. At first I only have canvases in my shop. I put in an alchemy bid to create a growth chart, and that opened a huge door for me. They have become my best sellers.

4)What inspires you to create?:

Everything. Life. My kids. I love browsing blogs and finding inspiration online.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

Word of mouth is great advertisement. I have many repeat customers, and several who've been referred to my shop through past customers. I am also learning the power of etsy teams. Facebook and blogs have also been quite a success.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

What are you waiting for? Just go for it! Be you, and learn as you go. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there, and to make mistakes and learn from it. Don't compare yourself to everyone else. Keep your art real and original, and let it speak for itself.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:

I first heard about Etsy through a few friends who had shops there. I didn't know anything about the place except that it was a website where people could sell their handmade items. When my local business started to slow down enough for me to consider expanding to include online selling, I thought I'd check into Etsy, and I'm glad I did! :)

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

My name is Sarah. I live at home with my parents and younger sister here in SW Missouri. I've been interested in sewing for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching my Grandma sew, and learned so much from her not only about sewing but also about serving and blessing others with sewing. My best friend growing up was also an excellent seamstress and together we sewed many little projects.

3)How did you get started as a designer?

After I graduated from high school I made a Christmas outfit as a gift for a special little friend of mine, and from there, I took off! I've been doing custom sewing for friends, family, and other customers for the past 11 years, and I'm still loving it. Designing patterns certainly isn't my specialty, but I love taking a pattern and making small changes or adding special touches that make each outfit unique. I don't often sew more than one of any outfit unless it's for a custom order (matching sister outfits), or it's something that I really, really liked. :)

4)What inspires you to create?:

Many things inspire me - fabric, pictures, clothes I see, sweet little girls. I love to create cute, feminine, and modest dresses, jumpers, skirts, etc. for girls!

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

Marketing is something that's not easy for me. I have business cards that I include with every order along with giving them out when I can. I also have a blog. I've done a few giveaways on other people's blogs which has helped to bring a few new lookers into my shop and Etsy. Other than that I'm still trying to figure out what I can do to get the word out. :)

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

ENJOY what you do. Be yourself. Don't try to do just what some other person has done. Use the skills and talents you have to create and have fun. There are lots of ideas and patterns out there. Just jump in and see what you can make. And be sure to do your very best at whatever your project is. Don't settle for second best - aim for high quality.

Summer Fun Craft: Handmade Side walk Chalk

Hi everyone,
I remember when my sister and I where little we would draw on the sidewalk for hours. We would go through tubes of chalk. I have found a How to on how to Make Sidewalk chalk. This would be a fun project for the kids and could also be great to make to give out for party favors. I can't wait to try this Recipe in the future.

Tools and Materials

Cardboard tube (saved from center of paper towels, toilet paper, wrapping papers, tinfoil, etc.)
Scissors
Duct tape
Freezer paper
32-ounce plastic containers (saved yogurt containers work great)
Tempera paint in a variety of colors
1 cup water
Mixing spoon
1 1/2 cups Plaster of Paris
Rubber spatula
Cooling rack

Tip: Silicone baking trays also make great chalk molds, and come in fun shapes such as stars and hearts.

Sidewalk Chalk How-To
1. If necessary, cut cardboard tube to about 5 1/2-inch lengths (the size of half a paper towel tube). Other sizes can be used as well. Use duct tape to tape off one side of each tube.
2. Insert a sheet of freezer paper, cut to size (with paper inside the tube).
3. In a plastic container, mix 2 to 4 tablespoons (depending on color desired) of paint into the cup of water. Continue mixing while slowly adding the Plaster of Paris to the water, until completely combined. The mixture should be about the texture of frosting.
4. Fill prepared tube with mixture, assisting with a rubber spatula. Tap tube on work surface to release air bubbles.
5. The plaster will set in about a half hour, and can be removed from tube after about one hour (check for hardness by gently squeezing tube). Once chalk is removed from tube, place on a cooling rack and let dry completely (at least 24 hours) before using.

You can make Fun shapes and several different colors.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:
I first heard about Etsy a few years ago when we were living out of the country from a friend who was a regular buyer. She repeatedly told me I should try selling on Etsy, but I wasn't at all interested.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
When my husband and I moved back to the States 1 1/2 years ago I was needing to find some kind of job. One of our daughters-in-law kept telling me that I should make little girl clothes and sell them on Etsy. I wasn't at all interested, until we spent a week with them and I made a couple of pillowcase dresses for our 1st granddaughter, who was then 7 months old. I was hooked immediately!!

3)How did you get started as a designer?
I started designing clothes for my dolls when I was very little - kind of a cut-and-paste method! I didn't like using patterns and following directions like my Mom did so I did my own thing. Over the years I made/designed some of my own clothes and then also for our 5 sons when they were little. None of them wanted anything I came up with when they were old enough to know better! That developed into designing and making work-out clothes for the gym that were flattering for different body shapes (while they were trying to get into shape rather than after they were in shape!), which I did with my sister-in-law for a few years. After that my husband and had a business designing and making flags, banners and dance garments. I did all my own patterning, learning how to fit different shapes that wore the same sizes.

4)What inspires you to create?:
When I first started AliBeanBaby I relied on my daughter-in-law's input for dress designs and fabric ideas. Little girl dresses was a very unknown area to me! Thankfully that has changed and I am much more confident now and we both have input. I get inspired both by looking at fabrics and also looking at clothing. I'm not an original creative person - but have ideas sparked from something that I see, with the ideas sometimes similar and sometimes nothing like what I saw originally.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:
I count on customers who are wearing AliBeanBaby to bring new customers in, and I love relating to repeat customers. I'm not a social chat-er, so using Facebook and Twitter have been a slow learning process for me but participating in a couple different teams has helped with that. I have done some blog/give-away and photo trading also.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
When I started AliBeanBaby I didn't have a business plan, or really any kind of plan or goals or vision. I just had 2 dresses and was loving the idea of making more and possibly being able to stay home and make an income doing it. I know that probably isn't a good way to start a business, but not having all of the business aspects in place gave me the freedom to let it grow and develop slowly until I could see the "personality" it was beginning to take on. For someone just starting out I would say to go with who they are personally, whether that means having a detailed business plan and knowing all the steps to take ahead of time, or just having an idea and letting it develop.

Today's Feature Blog is on Baby Boomba. She is a Fellow Etsy Kids Member and make Beautiful Baby accessories.

How did you first hear about Etsy?

I first heard about ETSY through a really good friend of mine back in 2007. She is a very crafty mom whom I worked with at a well known children's publishing company.

Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!

When I was young, my mom taught me how to knit and sew. The sewing eventually came back to haunt me after starting Baby Boomba (inspired by my little 4 year old man). I'm a graphic designer by day and a sewing fiend by night. Or vice versa. When I have spare time and not picking up toys, I try to do a little bit of painting or little crafts with my son. How did you get started as a designer?

My favorite subject in school was art and I was always found holding a sketchbook and a 2B pencil. I grew up drawing and painting which eventually led me to pursue the Graphic Design industry in University. I majored in Fine Art and received an Honors Bachelor of Fine Art degree. The internet was just coming out then so I dived into the beginnings of web design back in the mid 1990's. After graduating, I worked in various design companies ranging from print houses, to multimedia, to publishing, to photo + video, eventually settling down to form my own two companies, Baby Boomba (designer baby gear) and Q graphique (my graphic design company). Both that and chasing my 4 year old leaves me breathless!

What inspires you to create?:

Beautiful designs, beautiful fabric, functionality of a piece.

How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?

Through Facebook and Twitter and sometimes Newsletters and of course, my website.

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?
A teacher in high school once asked me what I wanted to do as a career. I told her I wanted to be an Artist. She replied, "Great you'll be starving!". My response to her right now: "I ain't starving!"

Do what you love, do lots of research, market yourself like crazy and make sure you have a good and solid brand for your company. Invest in a logo. Don't get your best friend's son's nephew to make you one. Take beautiful pictures of your products. Photo shop is your best friend.

Summer fun Craft made out of SeaShell

Summer is almost here!!!! I know a lot of people go to the beach for Summer vacation. When you go to the beach do you look for Sea Shells? What do you do with them when you get home? I collect Shells and have tons just sitting in a bucket. If you are like me and just have them Bucket somewhere....I have the Perfect Kids Craft for you.

Koala How-To
1. Experiment with different combinations to come up with animal shapes before gluing everything into place. We chose small scallop and clam shells for the koalas, and long razor clams decorated with ring-top cowries for the tree.

2. Use small cushions of polymer clay, which is pliable and slightly sticky, to test out various arrangements. For assembly, a tacky, quick-drying glue works best. Build heads and bodies separately. Before joining larger parts, use a brush to glue on small parts (such as beads for eyes) and clay to support creatures while glue dries.

If you don't have shells and are wanting to make this craft. You can go to your local craft store and buy a basket of seashells but that kinda takes the fun out of finding them on then beach yourself and making a Kola out the shell you and your kiddos kind.

This Blog feature is on a adorable shop called Inspirations By Jordan. She is a Fellow Etsy kids Member. She makes Awesome Nursery Decor , hair bows and so much more.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?: I received a gift of personalized burp clothes from a friend at my baby shower and loved them so much I had to ask were she got them from....and my addiction to Etsy.com began. As a stay at home mom who loves to craft and paint I had to join in to sell and buy fun, unique, and cute handmade items.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!: I am a mom of a beautiful baby girl (Addison Grace) who is my "Inspiration" for everything and a wife to my best friend and husband (Brett). I graduated from UCF in Orlando, Fl in 2002 in Marketing....but my interests has always been in designing, crafting, and creating. My favorite would definitely be drawing/painting children's art....even though I am addicted to anything that is pink, glittery, and girly!

3)How did you get started as a designer? I've always loved to draw and paint since I was a little girl....but I became truly motivated when I began designing my little girls nursery. I just couldn't find any art that I really liked to put in her room.....so I painted them all myself. Next thing I new I had friends asking my to paint something for their kids or just paint something they could give as a gift.

Also, my daughter loves to wear headband and bows. That started when she was only 3 weeks old...now she is going to be a year old on March 22. I was buying some bows at craft shows...but I wanted something unique and different. So I started making my own Double Layer version of a bow for her....and Addison just had to have one to match each of her outfits ; )

4)What inspires you to create?: Mostly my daughter, but really I find inspiration in everything I see. From bedding sets to mobiles, Christmas ornaments to clothing, stuffed animals to children's toys, movies to sports teams, and even purses.......inspirations truly do come from everywhere.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?: Facebook is a great way to advertise. I also participate in local craft shows, and have even been featured in magazines (i.e. February/March 2011 issue or Orlando, Fl "Babyourself" magazine).

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?: Believe in yourself and your work!

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!: I live in Cary, NC with my awesome husband and 2 kiddos and 1 on the way, due any day now! I am so lucky to have such a supportive and helpful husband. I really couldn't do all that I do without him. When he sees that I have several orders that need to get made, he jumps into daddy mode, takes the kids out, and lets me work. I love tutorials- just wish I had more time to try them all!:)

3)How did you get started as a designer? I had a baby girl and saw all these cute, trendy items at the local boutique stores that I could not afford. I went home and decided that I could make that same stuff for far less money. All my friends saw my cute items and, thus, began Brooks Boutique!!

4)What inspires you to create?: All the gorgeous fabric available!! I love, love, love fabric. I just hold it up and imagine where I could use it! On a dress, car seat, blanket, curtain, pillow, whatever strikes me! :)

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?: I sell on ETSY, at local craft fairs, and pass out business cards everywhere I go. I have them in the local post office and also put magnets on mailboxes every few months. My friends and family are big supporters and also facebook and twitter help tremendously!

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?: To never give up and always HAVE FUN! Always be persistent- nothing ever comes easy, but the harder you work at something, the more pleasure you will get from its results. This business takes along time to really "get going" but once it does, it is awesome!

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:
I think it must have been an ad or feature in a parents' magazine that interested me and brought me into the wonderful world of etsy.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

I am a wisconsin girl through and through although I long for the beach all year long! I have a 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son and a grown kid husband.

I love sewing, photography and trying my hands at any tutorial that I find. Someday I would love to learn to knit more than the washcloths my grammy taught me to knit. If i had more time and money I probably would delve into even more crafts.

3)How did you get started as a designer?
I had kids. and, there are such cute things on the market but, somethings I just wanted to be able to make myself and make them unique in my own way. Plus, our friends are at the age of babies too, and what better gift than some handmade goodness.

4)What inspires you to create?:
color, string, catalogs, magazines, blogs, my children.....everything.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

This is something that I am working on. I tend to be somewhat on the shy side (especially in person) so blogging, facebook, and email or tops for me right now. soon I hope to step out with business cards in hand.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
Designing is about doing what you love. In a way, it is kind of a way to be selfish because you get to do something you love but, for others.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?: I have been an etsy shopper for a few years. I'm not sure how I first stumbled upon it, but it was love at first click.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

I live in Fairfax, VA with my husband and bulldog. I have a cooking blog that takes a lot of my time and I just recently started a new day job doing marketing.

I love all kinds of crafts! I have an obsession with fabrics and papers. Sometimes I have to avoid craft and fabric stores to save my bank account... Although sewing is my favorite, I also like scrapbooking and painting, too. My mom got me into sewing; she made us amazing halloween costumes, outfits for my stuffed animals, and recently she's been quilting. My first sewing project was making her a stuffed teddy bear by hand.

3)How did you get started as a designer?

When a good friend was having a baby I wanted to make her something nice so I designed my first minky blanket. I started making blankets and matching bibs and burp cloths for all my friends who had babies. Then, I started making pajamas and pillowcases. I just have so many ideas, all the time, that I wanted to start to sell them so that I would get a chance to make them all and think of new things.

4)What inspires you to create?:
Everything. I think about it all the time. I keep a sketchbook next to my bed, which helps me sleep at night because I can draw out some of my favorite ideas.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

I'm still pretty new as a seller; I just started in November 2010. I have been trying to get involved in teams, relist multiple times a day, and make as much stuff as I can.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

Always follow your passions. Be fearless. And make something every day.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?
A friend of mine who is extremely crafty started selling on Etsy and introduced me to it. I then began shopping and using the site as a consumer.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!?
) I am a wife and mama to 2 little boys (Trexen-2, Paceler-1). I work full-time at Heartland Community Church near Madison, WI as the Children's Ministry Director. I love sewing, crafty, planning parties and organize a weekly playgroup. I love sewing, making all kinds of things for babies, mamas and everyone in between.

3)How did you get started as a designer?
My mom is very crafty and has been sewing my entire life. I grew up doing craft projects, watching her make things and being inspired by creativity. With the birth of my second son and being so close to my first my mom encouraged me to find a hobby, something just for me. I chose sewing because I love fabric and really wanted to start making trendy baby items for my kiddos and friends. Paceler was 2 weeks old, I bought a sewing machine and quickly learned from my mom. I have been crafting and sewing up a storm ever since!

4)What inspires you to create?
I love to see the finished product and the adventure getting there. It is so inpiring to put my creativity into action and make something with my own hands.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?
My friends and family are amazing supporters frequenting my shop and sharing with others. I use Facebook a lot to promote items, keep fans updated and post pictures on new products. I also try to advertise on numerous blogs and websites.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?
Don't be afraid to try. Even if you can only find a few minutes or an hour each week let yourself be creative and crafty! That time to yourself re-energizes you for all other areas in life.

Today's blog feature is on my Best Friend Laura's Shop : Addi Jai Party Poms . She makes Amazing Pom poms. Pom Poms are wonderful for Birthday parties,hanging in a room to jazz it up and perfect for Photo shoots. I have some hanging in my Studio and Love them.

1) How did you first hear about Etsy?:

The owner of Expressions by Devin herself (my BEST friend) told me just how great Etsy was!

2) Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

I’ve been married to the love of my life for almost 5 years. We have identical twin daughters that will be two this June. I have several favorite crafts, I’m not sure I could pick just one. I like lots of things from knitting to drawing.

3) How did you get started as a designer?

I was a full-time working mom and it just wasn’t working. Devin told me about Etsy and told me that I should try it out, so that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t do it without hesitation. It took me a couple of months and a push from her to get me to follow through with it. When my shop first started out, it was called Addi Jai Boutique and it consisted primarily of hair bows. That was a huge bust. I then started listing tissue paper pom poms, which was something that I had made for my daughters’ first birthday and fell in love. They were a hit! I changed my shop name to Addi Jai Party Poms and the business took off. I am now a successful stay-at-home working mom and I couldn’t be happier!

4) What inspires you to create?:

My customers.

5) How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

Through my Facebook page and word of mouth.

6) Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

You never know if you could be successful unless you try. Great photos are a huge plus too!

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:
Oh my gosh, I don't even remember. Most likely on somebody's blog, but I'm not sure whose it was.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:
I'm Paige, I'm 25, and I live in the Chicago 'burbs with my husband. My favorite crafty things are making jewelry (not a big shock there) and re-painting old ugly furniture to make it pretty again. Seriously, I believe in the power of paint.

3)How did you get started as a designer?
I've always loved weddings, and planning my own was like being in heaven. Once the day was over, I wanted to stay involved in the process, so I started making bridal jewelry. Plus, I hated my day job at the time and needed a creative outlet to distract me from the misery. It worked!

4)What inspires you to create?:
As dorky as it sounds, my beads. Getting a new shipment of supplies is like getting a present. A lot of the stuff I use is pretty all by itself, so combining them only makes it better.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:
I have two blogs, finalclothesout.blogspot.com and whitechapelwedding.blogspot.com, I'm on Twitter, I occasionally post things on Facebook (though I don't have a dedicated page for my shop), I sell my wares at craft shows, and I do guerilla advertising by putting my business cards inside wedding magazines at the book store.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:
Stick with it. Being successful and getting noticed takes a ton of work and it can be easy to get discouraged and give up. But don't! Work everyday to get better and you will.

Who want's a Tv Dinner?

APRIL FOOLS..... A Little early I know but this would be a Perfect April's Food Dessert. Yes I said Dessert... Those are Cupcakes.
These Cupcakes are so easy to make and Great for kids to make. Would be a great project for the kids make at a Birthday party. I can't wait to make these...

Here is the Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 recipe basic vanilla cupcakes

Drumsticks, recipe follows

Mashed Potatoes, recipe follows

Peas and Carrots, recipe follows

Disposable aluminium fairy cake moulds/cupcake moulds (available at grocery stores)

For the basic vanilla cupcakes:

350g plain flour

½ tsp salt

2 tsp baking powder

½ tsp bicarbonate of soda

1 tsp vanilla essence

125ml cup milk

125ml vegetable oil

110g butter

100g sugar

3 eggs

For the drumsticks:

Bone mould

50g white chocolate melting wafers

250g vanilla icing

6 plain doughnut holes

150g cereal crumbs (recommended: Cornflakes)

For the potato mash:

3 yellow fruit chews (recommended: Laffy Taffy's, Starbursts)

125g vanilla icing

60ml caramel sauce

For the peas and carrots

9 orange fruit chews (recommended: Tootsie Fruit Rolls, Starbursts)

6 tbsp vanilla icing

Green food colouring

2 tbsp hard green candies (recommended: M&M's, Runts)

TV dinner cupcakes

Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas 4.

1) In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.

2) In another bowl, whisk together the vanilla extract, milk and vegetable oil.

3) Cream together the butter and sugar with a hand-held mixer in a large bowl. Add the eggs 1 at a time and mix to combine. Alternate the dry and wet ingredients to the egg mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.

4) Pour the batter 2/3 full into the cupcake tins and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before frosting.

For the drumsticks:

1) Put a bone template on a greaseproof paper lined baking tray.

2) Melt the chocolate over a double boiler. When melted, pour the chocolate into a resealable bag. Press out the excess air and seal the bag. Snip a .5-cm corner from the bag and, following the bone template, pipe an outline onto the greaseproof paper. Fill in the bone with chocolate. Tap the baking tray lightly to smooth the top of the chocolate. Repeat with the remaining chocolate to make 6 bones.

3) Refrigerate until firm, about 5 to 10 minutes.

4) Spread the vanilla frosting on top of 6 cupcakes, mounding it slightly. Using a sharp knife, make a small slit in the top of each doughnut hole. Carefully peel 1 chocolate bone from the waxed paper and insert the pointed end into the slit. Repeat with the remaining bones and doughnut holes. Place 1 doughnut hole on top of each cupcake. Put in the freezer for 15 minutes. Spread the frosting over the doughnut hole until it is smooth and covered.

5) Add the cornflake crumbs to a medium bowl and gently press the frosted cupcakes into the crumbs to cover completely. Transfer the cupcakes to the aluminium tray.

For the mashed potatoes:

1) Cut the yellow fruit chews into 2.5-cm squares. Spread the vanilla frosting on 1 cupcake, mounding it slightly. Use a small spoon to create a well in the center of the frosting. Put the cupcake in the baking tray and arrange the fruit chew in the well at an angle.

2) Heat the caramel sauce for 2 to 4 seconds in the microwave and drizzle it on top of the cupcake so that it fills the well and spills over like gravy. Repeat with remaining 5 cupcakes.

For the peas and carrots:

1) Cut the fruit chews into .5-cm cubes. Add the vanilla frosting to a small bowl and add enough green food coloring until it becomes bright green color. Spread on top of the cupcakes. Arrange the green candies and orange chews on top, pressing them into the frosting. Transfer the cupcakes to the aluminium tray.

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?:

A few years ago, my mom first told me about Etsy. I think she read about Etsy it in a magazine article. A few years later, I stumbled upon it by accident ... and made a purchase or two. Then I was hooked.

I opened my shop on November 1, 2010.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!:

I am a stay/work-at-home mom to my 1-year-old daughter. My husband, daughter and I live in rural North Dakota, near the Missouri River. I was raised in Northern California so this far from what I grew up with, but I absolutely love it here. My hobbies include sewing, photography, and painting.

3)How did you get started as a designer?

I worked as a professional graphic designer and I was a hobby quilter before my daughter was born. When I was pregnant, I started making smaller/faster projects and sewed my first pair of baby booties. After my daughter was born I quickly realized that these were the only booties that would stay on her feet. I made a few more pairs for my daughter, and a few as gifts. I improved my design and bought more fabric. I received a few orders and decided to open a shop on Etsy. I also sell wholesale, and I'm excited that Bison Booties are now available in a few retail locations.

4)What inspires you to create?:

I am inspired by everyday life around me like colors and shapes.

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?:

My daughter always wears her Bison Booties and we get compliments wherever we go, so that is an easy one. I also promote my Etsy shop through my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/bisonbooties). I love the Moo (moo.com) Mini Business cards and I cary then with me everywhere.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?:

Do what you love, and be excited about it. Excitement is contagious, so if you are truly happy with your art/craft, then others will be too. Also, don't be afraid to continually improve your product, whether that be through the design or the marketing, stay fresh.

I have brought back my Feature blog spot. This weeks Feature is a Fellow Etsykids Team member: Bethany's Five

1)How did you first hear about Etsy?: A friend on a cloth diapering forum told me about Etsy several years ago.

2)Tell us about a little about yourself and your favorite craft/art!: I am mother of 5 wonderful children ages 11 to 1 years old, 3 girls and 2 boys.

My mom taught me to crochet when I was 10 years old and I remember making my father a wool scarf for Christmas that year. I have been at it 20 years and love it more and more each time I create something new.

3)How did you get started as a designer? I have always loved to create but the idea for my hats actually came from my oldest daughter who out of the blue one day said "mom, you should make a giraffe hat" I told her to draw it for me and I would try. To this day she often comes up with and draws me new designs.

4)What inspires you to create?: Everything inspires me!

5)How do you get the word out about your shop and Etsy?: I am big on word of mouth, I think most of my business comes from happy customers telling their friends. I also use Facebooks pages to keep my "fans' up to date on my work.

6)Any advice you would give to aspiring designers?: Keep at it, most people are not an over night success! I was given to pieces of advice when I started on Etsy, 1) have great photos and 2) keep relisting. Those 2 things are what keep me in business but you have to remember to FOLLOW advice, just reading it does not always help.

I know Thanksgiving has passed already. I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. Sorry I nevr got around to writing this Blog until now.

I am so thankful for so many blessing is my life. I am so Thankful for My husband Joseph who is always there for me , supporting me and letting me follow my dream of running my own business. I am so thankful for my dog Lovie who keeps me company in my studio. I am so thankful for all my family and my Friends who are always there for me and Joseph. I am so thankful for all the customers and support for my shop. I never thought my business would every get this far.I am so thankful for everyone who has helped with our adoption ( donated, help with fundraiser, yard sales etc). We can't Thank you all enough.
I am so excited that our last home study Meeting is Monday. This means we will be able to get this show on the road and hopefully will have a new family member soon.

Hi Everyone,

I have finally got around to making this theme. I love how it has turned out.
I gave this banner to my Cousin as part of a Baby shower gift to hang in Little Ella's Room.

Hi Blog readers,
Just wanted to update you on the shop and some new items in the shop and some items in the works.
First of all I want to think everyone who donated to The Adoption Raffle. My husband and I can't THANK YOU enough. We raised $460 dollars for our adoption.
We have our Second Home study Meeting Nov 29th. I am so happy we will have this step done Before Christmas.

New theme : Giraffe Theme party supplies

I recently got a Custom request for a Giraffe theme Birthday banner. After making the banner I feel in love with finished Banner and knew I had to add it to my shop.

I also made a matching Highchair banner with it.

I am hoping to add matching centerpieces and Cupcake toppers to my shop to make a Super cute party pack. All the color of the item can be changed to match your party colors.

Office/ re organizing

Sorry it has been a long time. It been a little crazy around here working on adoption paper work, Re organizing my studio, working on orders, New items and so much more. A couple months ago my Husband I decided that we need to clean out a room for the Future baby. So we decided to share a office. It's alot smaller space then I had before. So I had to re organize and put alot things in storage. I never knew how much stuff I had until we started to move things over. Now that I am getting used to being in here. I decided the other day to reorganize. I got on Ikea's online store to see if I could find anything that would help re organize my space. I found tons of things online. When I went to try and find a store the closes one to us was Ohio. I really didn't want to make the drive. I went to my local craft supplies store to see what they may have to offer. At Joann's Craft store I bought my Craft desk , Which I love. So We decided to start there first. I went to the craft desk / sewing department to find this Beauty:

It was exactly what I wanted. I was so excited. It holds all my 12 x12 paper, all my card stock scraps and so much more. Here is my Finished reorganized studio. I am super happy with the finished product of what my half of the office looks like.]

P.s The Adorable Pom Poms hanging above my desk. I bought them from my best Friend Laura. she just opened a Etsy shop.The Pom Poms are VERY easy to fan and comes with detailed Fanning instruction and super easy to hang ( she make a wire loop so it is easy to thread your monofilament). Weekend Recap!!! Lady Bug First Birthday party

This weekend was my Friend Laura's twin girls 1st Birthday party ( Lady bug Theme). A couple months ago Laura asked me to make some Ladybug Items for her for there party. I was super excited that she asked me. I was so excited to see the Decoration in action. I have never been to a party that used my Decorations.Here are some pictures of the Party and My Items:

Craft Talk ( Summer Kids Crafts)

Crafts talks from the month of you June until July will be about Kids Crafts. School is out and the kids are home all day every day. ( I dont have Children (yet)But have tons of Cousins). My family gets together alot for the Summer and there is about 20 little ones running around. I have picked out a The first summer craft to try on them the next get together we have.

What To Do:

1. Trim Your Plates: Start out by trimming both of your paper plates. You want to cut off the edge that rolls back down. This way when you tape the two halves together, there will be a nice clean edge. I carefully held my paper plates together, facing each other and then cut the excess off.

2. Cut Out Fins: Next I cut out my fins from an old box. You could play around with different designs, cutting them out and holding them up to your fish body. When you like one, tape it to the inside of one of your paper plates. I added 1 flipper and 2 fins.

3. Attach plates together: I attached both paper plates together using my hot glue gun but you could just as easily use tape or regular glue.

4. Color Your Fish: At this point you could draw eyes in and use color markers to make cool designs on your fish. You have a paper-plate fish! Now you can attach a piece of string to it and hang your fish from the ceiling. The most important thing is to experiment and try new ideas.

5. Finish Your Fish: Now this is where I spent some time: decorating my fish. First I tried running my tape stripes in different directions and decide on the vertical look. Then starting at the tail I carefully stuck a piece of blue masking tape down, leaving it long. I then stuck a piece on the opposite side and in the same location. Have fun with your fish!

Its Easy and( No paint). I love Kids projects that don't have paint. Keep Check back for more fun and easy kids crafts. Happy Crafting!!!!

Cards for Sam Fundrasier

Expressions By Devin is Hosting a Fundraiser ( Cards for Sam)to help some Very Close friends of ours to raise money for Medical bills. There son Sam was diagnosis On April 13, 2010 with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. Sam began Treatment on April 27, 2010, two days after Sam turned 5 months old. His treatment plan includes 6 rounds of chemo, surgeries, possible radiation, and two stem cell transplants.

All proceeds made on my Greeting Cards will be going to Sam to help with medical bills etc.
